APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Error Message: N/A
    .
    Stack Trace: N/A
    .

Local fix

  • Add -Xmso to the command line explicitly, without using the
    OPENJ9_JAVA_OPTIONS or IBM_JAVA_OPTIONS environment variables,
    or the options.default file.

Problem summary

  • The -Xmso<size> command line option to set the native
thread stack size is not applied to the main thread when the
option is set using the OPENJ9_JAVA_OPTIONS or IBM_JAVA_OPTIONS
environment variables, or the options.default file.
This issue only affects the JVM process's main thread. The
option is always applied correctly to additional application
threads, regardless of how it is set.
Refer to the following OpenJ9 issue for further information:
    https://github.com/eclipse-openj9/openj9/issues/16105

Problem conclusion

  • The OpenJ9 JVM has been updated to ensure that the stack size
specified by the -Xmso option is always applied to the main
thread, regardless of how the option is added to the command
    line.
