Error description
If Tivoli monitoring Service pack 7 or later is installed on a system where ITM home directory contains spaces (e.g. c:\Program Files\IBM\ITM ) the installation will fail and the following error will be logged: Bad return code from cmd /c %ITMPATCH_DIR%\bundles\WINDOWS\setup.exe /w /Update /z"/sf%ITMP ATCH_DIR%\bundles\WINDOWS\deploy\SP_Silent_Install.txt"/s /f2"%C
Local fix
Problem summary
Service pack install failure. Viewing the patchlog.log showed that setup.exe failed with either rc = -3 or rc = a very large negative number. Occasionally this was reported as occurring on machines installing to a non-default folder (eg c:\program files (x86)\ibm\itm), but that may not have been a true correlation.
Problem conclusion
The "large negative number" that was occasionally reported resolved to 0xC0000409 which is a Windows stack buffer overflow error. Indicated module was GSKit. The fix for this APAR is contained in the following maintenance packages: | service pack | 6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-SP0012
