Error description

  • After upgrade to Maximo 7.6.1.2 IFIX004, It was noticed that
work center application is running very slow. Delay was seen in
load times ? 1 minute, some times taking almost a minute to open
    the applications.

    As per development team,

-The new Work Centers UI Layer/Components tap into the
    existing REST APIs.
-The Maximo Work Centers User Interface (UI) uses the Maximo
REST API to provide a simplified architecture for building
Maximo Work Centers based applications. The
original Maximo UI was built on the server side, whereas the
Work Centers UI is built on the browser side and uses the Maximo
REST API to access Maximo Business Objects (MBOs) and Maximo
    data.
-The initial work center login will take a little extra time
so the components can load. Once its loaded for the first time
the components are cached and should load quicker upon the next
    login.
-Reponses will vary based on connection speeds, server
configuration, db config, firewalls, network latency, devices
    used, etc.

Steps taken to minimize the load time:

-After the upgrade, multiple database re-orgs and runstats were
performed which reduced the WORK CENTER loading time from 1
    minute to around 30 seconds.
Even though performance has improved, expectations were at least
    open within 5 seconds.

-Har files were reviewed and it was identified that 4 REST calls
that were taking longer than usual which were later investigated
    by development team.
In order to evaluate the slow running OSLC requests, SQL logging
was enabled, SQL statements for each long running requests were
captured and were executed in a database query tool to see how
long it takes for each one to run.

-Applying vulcanization to Work Centers. Tech note to help
    improve performance with it:
    https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/6446949
Vulcanization did not improve the speed though. It helps with
the transitioning speed, but when Work Centers starts loading,
    it's still slow.

-Gzip compression was enabled which would help to reduce the
file size that would improve the speeds too.

-The non-working environment was pointed to the working
environment's database to see if that improves the performance
of the non-working environment. Both of the env's databases had
similar amount of records, so they were comparative databases.

-DB resources increased, indexes added and best practices
    followed :
    https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/best-practices-performance

    Actual Result:
Work center applications are taking ? 1 minute of time to open.

    Expected Result:
Work Center applications should be opening within 5 seconds.

    Reported in Version:
    Tivoli's process automation engine 7.6.1.1-IFIX20201221

Local fix

  • According to UI L3 team,
Code fix needed in app-wait.html. Attached() function need to
    comment out appwait.hidden(true)

Also, relationship change for WOSEXPORT was incorrect in prod,
test, and dev. This change will fix the business analyst work
center. This is the correct relationship:
    osname=:intobjectname and dataset=:analyticdatasetnum and
    requser=:owner and reqdatetime=(select max(reqdatetime) from
    fileexportreqqueue where osname=:intobjectname and
    dataset=:analyticdatasetnum and requser=:user)
