Error description
When the MQ Front Side Handler is connected to an alias Queue instead of a local input Queue, the MQ Backout Settings from the connected Queue Manager is not retrieved as expected. The result is that a failed Message remains in the local input Queue and is not transferred to the configured Backout Queue.
Local fix
The workaround is to use a local input Queue instead of an alias input Queue.
Problem summary
Customers who use Alias Queues and enable the "Retrieve Backout Settings" property in the MQ Front Side Handler are likely to see this problem. MQ Backout did not work correctly if MQ Front Side Handler connects and retrieves the backout setting from an Alias Queue.
Problem conclusion
The fix is available on 4.0.1.17, 4.0.2.13, and 5.0.0.8. For a list of the latest fix packs available, please see: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21237631
