Error description
After an upgrade of the Tivoli Storage Manager Server from version 5.x to version 6.x, an attempt to restore a file backed up to the server results in zero bytes being restored. Products using the API such as HSM and TDP would fail with an error stating that no data is available. This happens if the upgrade failed or was canceled, but went far enough before the failure to permit the server to start. To determine whether the upgrade failed, refer to the output of the DSMSERV INSERTDB command. If the upgrade wizard was used to perform the upgrade, the output will be stored in the InsertDB.out file stored in the server's instance directory. Alternatively, check for the existence of the database table named: "staged_object_ids". This can be done from the DB2 Command with the following commands: db2cmd (this will open a new command window) set DB2INSTANCE=server1 db2start db2 connect to TSMDB1 db2 set schema TSMDB1 db2 select tabname from syscat.tables where tabname='STAGED_OBJECT_IDS' The insertdb portion of the upgrade was not completed successfully if the result of the select query is: TABNAME ------------------------------------------------------------ STAGED_OBJECT_IDS 1 record(s) selected Versions Affected: Server 6.1 and 6.2 Initial Impact: high Additional Keywords: zz61 dcf 1425796
Local fix
Redo the upgrade process from 5.x to 6.x. Consult Technote 1425796 for more information.

Problem conclusion
The server will be modified to detect if an upgrade from V5 did not complete. If a partial upgrade is detected, the server will issue message ANR1539S and then shut itself down. ANR1539S A previous database upgrade did not succeed. The server cannot start. Explanation: A DSMSERV INSERTDB command used to upgrade from Tivoli Storage Manager V5 failed or was cancelled. The result is a database that does not contain all of the data from the original database. The server cannot be run with an incomplete database. System Action: The server will not start. User Response: Rerun the DSMSERV INSERTDB command. Affected platforms: AIX, HP-UX, Sun Solaris, Linux, and Windows.
