Error description

  • This customer use NFS DFS/SMB mounted disks to their endusers.
On this network attached disks the enduser can find z/OS batch
jobs (job control language JCL). When he tries to COPY / PASTE
this JCL to a PCOM session with TSO in edit mode he get two
    symptoms.

    1. When they try to COPY / PASTE the very 1st time the data from
a notepad to the PCOM TSO Member in edit mode, the PCOM
       session crashes.
    2. After a restart of PCOM the COPY / PASTE works, but just for
       the 1st line.

They used the sample 'Kroner.test.txt' (see ECUREP). When you
open this file with Notepad, it is shown in one single line
as a long string. When you open the same file with Wordpad it
    looks OK.

When you do the COPY / PASTE from the Wordpad all works fine.
I looked to this file 'Kroner.test.txt' with a hex editor and it
shows that there is a LF x'0A' control character which is
interpreted by Wordpad as new line and in Notepad it is ignored.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
Some files have only line feeds at the end of lines instead of
the regular carriage return line feed CR-LF combination. When
the user tries to paste data copied from these files, PCOMM
still processes it assuming that CR-LF is appended to the end
of each line. As this scenario of only LF was not accounted for
the paste fails and the PCOMM display session crashes.

Problem conclusion

  • PCSEDIT.DLL has been changed to check for LF and notify the
paste code to process accordingly, so the PCOMM display session
    does not crash when pasting.

Fixed in Fix Pack PCOM 5.9.6.2
Fixed in Manufacturing Refresh PCOM 6.0.1
