IC59102: CDP BACKUP QUEUE FEATURE WILL FAIL TO MAKE BACKUP COPY OF FILES WHEN REMOTE STORAGE IS UNAVAILABLE OR REBOOTED DURING BACKUP.

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • According to CDP for File user guide Chapter 1 under types of
    protection, "If remote storage area is temporarily unavailable,
    Continuous Data Protection for Files will queue backup copies
    until the remote storage becomes available".
    
    This feature does not works in CDP v3.1.3.10 when Windows 2003
    is a Remote server.
    .
    The issue can be recreated the with below steps.
    .
    1. Set "Continuous protection level" with "Remote storage only"
    2. Set "Location" with shared drives on another windows machine
    (Remote Storage page)
    3. Created test.txt file on local
    4. Checked that test.txt  file was created on remote windows
    machine
    5. Shutdown the remote windows machine
    6. Created test2.txt file on local machine
    7. Restarted the remote windows machine
    8. Created test3.txt file on local machine
    9. Verify test3.txt file was created on remote windows machine.
    While test2.txt was lost or has not been created.
    .
    As per Development this behavior is a bug in the CDP code.The
    return value that comes back from Windows 2003 which was not set
    as restartable. Development has made the changes and provided
    latest Fix to resolve the issue.
    .
    
    Customer can install the latest PTF release 3.1.4.0. This PTF is
    available in below FTP site.

    cdp_v3_1/TivoliCDP_CDPForFiles_PTF_3.1.4.0_x86_windows.exe
    

Local fix

  • The fix is already provided by CDP development which
    is available. There is no need for local fix.
    

Problem summary

  • When the CDP client is backing up to a Windows
    2003 server as the remote fileserver.  If files on the client ar
    e saved while the server is not avaliable or rebooted during bac
    kup the files will fail to be backed up when the server is back
    online.
    

Problem conclusion

  • This issue has been fixed in version 3.1.3.2
    0 or higher
