Error description

  • INFRA : Open several Drawing and saving to gl2

    SCENARIO:
    1. Open Drawing1.CATDrawing
    2. Click on File menu and select Save As option
    3. Select gl2 format and save the file
    .
    OBSERVATION1:
Go to windows explorer and check saved file
properties. It is about 16MB. Plot this data and it is
    printed correctly
    .
    4. Close CATDrawing
    5. Open Drawing1 - Drawing5 (all 5 files)
    6. Activate Drawing1.CATDrawing window

Comments

  • THIS APAR IS CONSIDERED AS A SUGGESTION
    FOR IMPROVEMENT FOR CATIA.
PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SUPPORT DEPARTMENT IN
ORDER TO OPEN A REQUIREMENT FORM.
    Incident Diagnosis
When loading several drafting embedding a very
large image, some of the draftings do not display
the image and exporting these darfting to GL2 is
    failing.
    .
This image requires a very large allocation (close
to 200Mb) to stay in memory. Loading and
displaying this image require at least two such
allocation for each image. Such large amount of
contiguous memory is very rare on 32bit.
Therefore after few such allocations, the followings
    images fail to get loaded.
    .
Since CATIA is not able to visualize the image, it
means no more large allocation is possible.
Therefore no export to GL2 is possible as this also
    requires memory.
    .
    Development Request Justification
Only efficient way to handle such issue and to allow
user to open many large images till total usage of
any available memory is to split these large images
    into smallest ones.
Another possible investigation would be to keep
these images compressed in memory (but that
    would impact performance greatly).
    .
This is a very important development with many
impacts on Visualization and Print algorithms.
Such development cannot be done without
    enchancement request
    .
    Answer and By-Pass
Load one Drawing at a time or use 64bit machine
    .
