Error description

  • When using * $$ PUN MEM=... for directing Punch Output to

Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: All users which are using * $$ PUN MEM=... *
    *                 redirection.                                 *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: VSE/POWER can be abnormally terminated *
    * if * $$ SLI statement is using right *
    *                      after * $$ PUN MEM=... statement.       *
    *                      Recommendation: (optional field)        *
    ****************************************************************
    VSE/POWER execution reader task analyses * $$ PUN MEM=...
    statement with phase IPW$$XJ and the extracted parameters are
    passed in a work area to the new execution writer task
    designated for punching the data into the AF sublibrary.
    If the next card read by execution reader task is also a JECL
    statement, e.g. * $$ SLI..., it will be processed by IPW$$XJ
    and IPW$$XJ may refer to the parameter work area accessing it
    via the new task.
    On fast processors ( D/T3906 , D/T3907, D/T8561 , D/T8562 )
    the transfer of the work area may not be completed.
    Then VSE/POWER uses an empty work area pointer to address
    storage outside of the partition, which abends VSE/POWER.
    PSW in message 1Q2CI will point to IPW$$XJ at offset x255E.

Problem conclusion

  • Code in IPW$$XJ will now assure that work area is chained
    immediately to new execution writer task so that it can be
    addressed directly after attaching the task.
