The Start Database Monitor (STRDBMON) command has been enhanced to include the Host Variable (HOSTVAR) parameter.

Three values can be specified on the HOSTVAR parameter

  1. *BASIC (default) - The behavior of the database monitor is unchanged.  Host variable values are collected in the 3010 record.
  2. *SECURE - No host variable values are collected.  No 3010 records are written.  This implies that statements with host variables and/or parameter markers cannot be fully reconstructed from the monitor output.
  3. *CONDENSED - No 3010 records are written.  Host variable values are captured within QQDBCLOB1 column within the 1000 record for the statement to which they belong. By not having to write the 3010 records, database monitor is more efficient and will require fewer system resources.

The host variable enhancement is also available to users of IBM i Navigator.  When the 'Host variable values' control is unchecked, *BASIC is used.
