Problem
USB mouse is not automatically detected by plug-n-play in the IBM preload for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 WS/ES. The symptom occurs when the user plugs in the USB mouse. The USB mouse is not detected by the operating system and cannot be controlled or moved properly.

USB mouse is not automatically detected by plug-n-play in the IBM preload for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 WS/ES. The symptom occurs when the user plugs in the USB mouse. The USB mouse is not detected by the operating system and cannot be controlled or moved properly.

- xSeries 306, type 8836, any model
- xSeries 206, type 8482, any model

Solution |

None.
Workaround |
---|
Manually modify the XF86Config file to configure plug n play support for the USB mouse.
- Finish preload Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 WS/ES download and login into the O.S.
- Modify the XF86Config file in command line by (vi/etc/X11/XF86Config)
- Add a Input Device section that looks like the following:
Section InputDevice
Identifier USB Mice
Driver mouse
Option Protocol IMPS/2
Option Device /dev/input/mice
Option ZAxisMapping 4 5
Option Emulate3Buttons "yes"
EndSection
- Add(do not replace) the following line to the applicable ServerLayout sections:
InputDevice USB Mice AlwaysCore
- Press Ctrl+ Alt+ Backspace to restart X-window.
- The modification will take effect and all the PS/2 mouse and USB mice can work properly with Plug n' Play.
