Symptom |
---|
On a BladeCenter HS20 8832 with system BIOS 9A (version 1.02) or higher, there exists an incompatibility between the system BIOS and the DOS USB CD-ROM device driver used by both UpdateXpress and the ServerGuide Scripting Toolkit.
These are the possible error messages:
- When Booting the UpdateXpress CD on a BladeCenter HS20 8832 flashed to BIOS 9A (version 1.02) or higher, the following message is displayed:
"UpdateXpress was unable to access the CD Drive."
- When booting off the ServerGuide Scripting Toolkit CD, selecting the Boot to a command prompt option will result in an "Invalid Drive specification" error when an attempt to access the CD-ROM drive is made.
- Selecting Run the toolkit process will result in the following error:
"Error: while checking path to runinst.bat, TKDIR = SG_STK is invalid."
Affected configurations |
---|
The system may be a BladeCenter HS20, type 8832, any model.
The BIOS level affected is:
- System BIOS 9A and above
Solution |
---|
This behavior will be fixed in next release of the ServerGuide Scripting Toolkit, version 1.1. The target date for the release is 2nd Quarter 2004
The ServerGuide Scripting Toolkit is available in Servers - IBM ServerGuide Scripting Toolkit version 1.0.01
Workaround |
---|
If using UpdateXpress, the system can still be flashed by running remoteux \\127.0.0.1 -f. This will run the UpdateXpress remote unattended firmware update on the local server. For more info on using remoteux-f refer to the index.htm on the root of the UpdateXpress CD.
If using the ServerGuide Scripting Toolkit, you can bypass this problem by using the Network Scenario installation as described in the "ServerGuide Scripting Toolkit User Guide".
