Problem

The IBM eServer xSeries 365 system may not boot if DIMM pair J1 and J5 is not installed, or if there are single bit error occurs on DIMM pair J1 and J5. BIOS must be upgraded, or DIMM pair J1 and J5 must be installed.

Symptom
The IBM eServer xSeries 365 system may not boot under the following conditions:

  • DIMM pair J1 and J5 is not installed, or
  • Single bit error occurs on DIMM pair J1 and J5.
  • This problem only happens with memory card CRU p/n 73P7209.

Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM e(logo)servers:

  • an IBM eServer xSeries 365, type 8862, any model.
  • an IBM eServer xSeries 365, type 8861, any model.

The BIOS level(s) affected is/are:

  • BIOS version 1.00

Solution
Update the IBM eServer xSeries 365 BIOS to version 1.01 (or later).

Workaround
Make sure DIMM pair J1 and J5 is installed.
