Resolving The Problem

Note: IBM ATA-133 RAID controller (71P8592)

To begin troubleshooting, check the following top issues. If your issue is listed, select the link, otherwise proceed to step 2.

Check cable connections
1. Do not attach ATAPI drives to the IBM ATA 133 RAID controller. The controller does not support ATAPI devices, such as CD-ROM, SL120, and Zip drives. Connect only hard disk drives to the RAID controller and connect ATAPI devices to the IDE channels on the motherboard, or to any other off-board IDE/ATAPI adapters.
2. System throughput problems and malfunctioning can occur if proper IDE cables are not used. Use 80-conductor, 40-pin Ultra ATA-100 or ATA-133 cables for all drives:
  - One-drop cable - FRU: 02R0719
  - Two-drop cable - FRU: 02R0721
Check slot requirements and card seating
1. Select a 3.3V or 5V PCI slot and align the RAID controller card bus connector to the slot.
2. Press down gently but firmly to make sure that the card is properly seated in the slot. The bottom edge of the controller card should be flush with the slot.
Check operating system support
The IBM ATA-133 RAID controller can operate under MS-DOS or any DOS compatible operating system using the standard AT BIOS INT 13h Hard Disk Drive interface. To operate with other operating systems, you must install software drivers. IBM provides software drivers on the driver and documentation CD for the following operating systems:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and Windows 2000 Professional
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
- Red Hat Linux v7.3
- Download the latest LSI Windows MegaRAID Configuration Console (MCC) for BladeCenter HS20 (Type 8832)
- Download the latest LSI Linux MegaRAID Configuration Console (MCC) for BladeCenter HS20 (Type 8832)
Check compatibility
Check the IBM ServerProven Web site to ensure your system has been tested and is compatible with the ATA133 RAID adapter.
