Troubleshooting
Problem
Note: PSG HelpCenter does not support the installation and configuration of third party backup software for IBM Option Tape Drives or Servers. 1. Red Hat 6.0 automatically recognizes the first scsi tape device as st0. 2. Type #grep tape /var/log/m
Resolving The Problem
1. Red Hat 6.0 automatically recognizes the first scsi tape device as st0.
2. Type #grep tape /var/log/messages to confirm Linux has recognized the tape drive.
3. An output similar to the following will be displayed:
Aug 6 02:22:54 arizona kernel: Detected scsi tape st0 at scsi 0, channel 0, id 3, lun 0.
Aug 6 02:22:54 arizona kernel: scsi : detected 1 SCSI tape 1 SCSI disk total.
4. To test the status of your tape drive type #mt -f /dev/st0 status.
5. If the tape drive was not automatically recognized, configure the device with the following commands:
# cd /dev (to change directory to the /dev subdirectory).
# ./MAKEDEV st0 (to create the new device st0).
NOTE: Some Linux tape utilities such as taper may allow you to format a preformated tape. Do NOT format your tape without first consulting your documentation.
