The 40/80GB(1) Half-High Internal SCSI Tape Drive joins the IBM family of DLT tape offerings available for IBM xSeries and Netfinity servers. Take advantage of solid performance, excellent data storage capacity, and a high-density form factor while using popular DLT backup technology.

Performance
The 40/80GB Half-High DLT VS80 Internal SCSI Tape Drive, using Ultra2 Low Voltage Differential (LVD) SCSI interface, delivers strong performance with data transfers up to:

• 3 MB/s in native mode - 10.8GB/hr
• 6 MB/s in compressed mode(2) - 21.6GB/hr

High-density, high-capacity tape drives
This tape backup provides the same storage capacity as the current 40/80GB Internal DLT Tape Drive, but in half the space. Its 5.25-inch, half-high form factor enables economical internal installation into most xSeries and Netfinity servers. Capacity capabilities include:

• 40GB in native mode
• 80GB in compressed mode

Easy to use and service
The 40/80GB Half-High DLT VS80 Internal SCSI Tape Drive features firmware update capability for easy microcode updates from tape or over the SCSI bus. The device contains convenient LEDs combined with onboard diagnostics to indicate:

• Drive operating status
• When head cleaning is needed
• Error logging to help diagnose problems

Compatibility
Embraced by enterprises requiring sound, reliable tape backup subsystems for their Intel-based servers, the 40/80GB Half-High DLT VS80 Internal SCSI Tape Drive joins the family IBM DLT offerings. It uses popular .5-inch, DLT tape IV cartridges. This enables the latest offering to be downward compatible for retrieving data stored on DLT tape IV type media, using a DLT4000 format, that was created on other IBM DLT tape products.

This economical tape device is ideal for entry- to midrange server backup environments.

(2) Based on using onboard hardware data compression feature and assuming a 2:1 compression ratio. Data compression is dependent on many factors and is often less than stated.

Hardware requirements for IBM systems
The 40/80GB Half-High DLT VS80 Internal SCSI Tape Drive requires connection to a dedicated channel of an integrated Ultra2 or Ultra160 SCSI controller or a similar optional SCSI adapter(4) installed in the server. Internal installation in an open 5.25-inch, half-high bay in the following servers is supported:

External installation through the use of an optional NetMedia Storage Expansion Unit (3551-001) is supported with the following servers. Some models may also require an optional Ultra160 SCSI adapter.

Note: The 40/80GB Half High Tape drive ( DLTVS ) ships with an IBM data cartridge and a Quantum DLTVS cleaning cartridge. The only cleaning cartridge that can be used in the drive is the Quantum DLTVS cleaning cartridge and it cannot be used in other drives. Call the product support number on this page to order the cartridge. You will be able to order the Quantum part number BHXHC-02.

Compatibility
The IBM PCI Ultra160 SCSI Adapter (19K4646) is tested and supported with 40/80GB Half-High DLT VS80 Internal SCSI Tape Drive.

The 40/80GB Half-High DLT VS80 Internal SCSI Tape Drive provides downward compatibility with previous IBM DLT offerings. Data backed up from the following products can be retrieved using the 40/80GB Half-High DLT VS80 Internal SCSI Tape Drive and DLT tape IV type media when stored in a DLT4000 format.

Limitations

• This product requires a dedicated Ultra2 or Ultra160 LVD SCSI channel for optimum performance.
• 40/80GB Half-High DLT VS80 Internal SCSI Tape Drive has not been tested for external attachment to an Ultra2 SCSI adapter. Support for external attachment to a SCSI adapter is limited to the Ultra160 adapter listed in the COMPATIBILITY section.
