  General information
The new IBM DLT Tape Automation products, available for select Netfinity server systems, provide greater backup capability than previous tape options. The 3502-R14 provides similar automated backup capability as the 3502-108 Autoloader. The 3502-R14 is a rack-mount model, which can be mounted in any industry standard EIA-310-D 19-inch rack. Features include:

• Two removeable 7-cartridge magazines (up to 70GB compressed capacity per cartridge) that provide up to 980GB total capacity for mid-range to high-end servers
• A single DLT tape drive that can be upgraded to up to three DLT drives with the addition of the 33L4979 drive option, providing faster transfer of data through concurrent read-write operations
• A barcode reader that can provide positive cartridge identification and inventory when coupled with supporting application software

All models ship with a trial version of popular backup/restore options from CA and Seagate Software, supporting:

This trial software can be installed on a 'try and buy' basis or other software can be used.
 
Compatibility: Data cartridges written in the IBM 35/70GB DLT Internal Tape option (04K0149) or the IBM 20/40GB DLT Internal Tape Option (01K1320) are Read and Write compatible with the 3502 tape automation family.
 
Limitations: Some configurations may not be supported.
