IBM Support

500 error only in Developer Tools when checking notifications on HTTPS protected Website.

Troubleshooting

Problem

When Cognos Analytics attempts to issue the following REST API call, it receives a HTTP 500 response code

https://SERVER_IP/bi/v1/notifications?unread-only=true&max=20&offset=0

Method:  GET

Symptom

Nothing visually in the browser.

Developer tools issues a 500 error.

Cause

This is due to the browser not being able to validate the Website's certificate properly, either due to an incorrect machine name, or an invalid chain of trust.

When we make subsequent REST API calls, this security error will prevent proper calls from being made.

Environment

Secured Web Server, protected by HTTPS

Cognos Analytics 11.x

Diagnosing The Problem

Browser has an security error message.

The response from the website includes:

{"cause":"com.ibm.jsse2.util.h: PKIX path building failed: java.security.cert.CertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target","error":"NOT-ERR-013 Failed to submit request to target: /bi/v1/disp"}

Resolving The Problem

Correct the issue with the certificate or the chain of trust.  If assistance is required, please contact your Security Administrator.
