Problem
Error when trying to varyon a Volume Group... 0516-082 varyonvg: Unable to access a special device file. Execute redefinevg and synclvodm to build correct environment.
Symptom
Volume Group fails to varyon
Cause
Inconsistency between the VGDA on disk and the ODM, device files on AIX.
Environment
AIX
Resolving The Problem
Issue redefinevg -d <disk> <vgname> and retry varyonvg.
If redefinevg fails, issue he following commands...
# varyoffvg <vgname>
# exportvg <vgname>
# importvg -y <vgname> <disk>
Verify if VG varied on, If not, retry varyonvg <vgname>
