Upgrading a cluster containing ESS and protocol nodes

The procedure for upgrading a cluster containing ESS and protocol nodes comprises several phases. Although the protocol node upgrade procedure is detailed here, the same procedure can be tweaked and used for client and NSD nodes as well.

  1. Planning upgrade in a cluster containing ESS and protocol nodes
  2. Performing upgrade prechecks
  3. Upgrading protocol nodes by using the installation toolkit
  4. Upgrading OFED, OS, kernel errata, systemd, and network manager on protocol nodes

    This phase comprises the following steps.

    1. Uninstalling OFED
    2. Upgrading OS and rebooting the system
    3. Upgrade kernel and rebooting the system
    4. Upgrading firmware
    5. Build the GPFS™ portability layer
    6. Installing OFED and rebooting the system
