Hardware Configuration Definition (HCD) allows you to define I/O
configurations to both the software and hardware from a single, interactive
interface. To define configurations to the hardware and software,
you use HCD to create an input/output definition file (IODF).
You can use HCD to perform the following major tasks:
- Define new configuration data (an IODF or parts of an IODF)
- Activate configuration data
- View and modify existing configuration data
- Maintain IODFs (such as, copy, import, and export)
- Query and print configuration data
- Migrate configuration data
- Compare the active I/O configuration to a defined I/O configuration
in an IODF. For a description of the software required for this verification,
see z/OS Planning for Installation.
