An installation whose primary goal is to recover its total cost,
including such items as personnel, equipment, and supplies, might
set the following billing objectives:
- The billing algorithms and reports must not require expensive
programming to control.
- The users must easily understand the charges.
- The charges must be repeatable; that is, the charge for a job
must be the same each time the user runs the job.
Given these objectives, the installation might want to create a
billing algorithm that is based on one specific SMF-recorded data
item such as the, “number of cards read/punched,” or “number
of lines/pages printed”.
