What's new in IBM Business Process Manager V8.6.0 cumulative fix 2017.12

IBM® Business Process Manager V8.6.0 Cumulative Fix 2017.12, which is now available for you to download and upgrade to, introduces many new features.

Update to IBM BPM V8.6.0 Cumulative Fix 2017.12 to experience all of the highlights, such as these added abilities and improvements:

IBM BPM

Simplify user task authoring with inline user tasks
In Process Designer, you can use new inline user tasks, which are extensions of regular user tasks, to quickly create the structure of a process without designing and implementing a user interface (UI) for each of the tasks. The associated coach renders the UI that is required to work with data exposed to the inline user task in the process diagram, enabling you to immediately run your process without the need for a task implementation. You can also convert an inline user task to use a stand-alone implementation, which transforms the inline user task into a regular user task by using an associated and editable client-side human service. For more information, see Working with inline user tasks.
Model decision logic in the web IBM Process Designer
You can now model decisions by using BAL rules for service flows. For more information, see Adding a Decision task to a service flow in the web Process Designer.

You can also convert decision services that were modeled with BAL rules in the desktop Process Designer. For more information, see Converting heritage services.

Experience enhanced support of coach views for use in IBM Robotic Process Automation with Automation Anywhere
To provide reliable user interfaces that bots can work on in IBM Robotic Process Automation (IBM RPA) with Automation Anywhere, this release offers an improved coach framework that ensures stable and predictable identification is available to coach views. Both the Responsive Coaches toolkit and the BPM UI toolkit are enhanced to use the new framework. For more information, see Coach views. For more information about IBM Robotic Process Automation (IBM RPA) with Automation Anywhere, see the IBM Robotic Process Automation with Automation Anywhere V10.0 documentation.
Gain more insight into IBM BPM process applications
Service flows emit events, including tracking events, that monitoring applications can use and analyze to give you better insight into your process applications. For more information, see Service integration monitoring events and Getting server usage metrics by using IBM Cloud Product Insights (deprecated).
Benefit from enhanced process application validation support
  • Detect JavaScript syntax errors in imported artifacts or modified JavaScript code by using server-side JavaScript syntax validation

IBM BPM now supports server-side JavaScript validation in script activities and variable initialization in service flows and processes by default. However, you can turn it off if it's not required. For more information, see Disabling server-side JavaScript syntax validation.

  • View validation errors and warnings in the Process Center console

At a glance, check the validation errors and warnings for the current version of an application or toolkit and each named snapshot in the Process Center console. For general information, see Validating process applications and toolkits.

Efficiently manage multiple library items in Process Designer
With the addition of the multi-selection capability, you can conveniently work with multiple artifacts at the same time in process applications or toolkits, for example copying or moving several items between projects or deleting multiple items. For more information, see Copying, duplicating, moving, and reverting library items.
Revert library items in Process Designer
You can revert artifacts to older versions from previous snapshots if the older implementation is preferred or the current version has problems. For more information, see Copying, duplicating, moving, and reverting library items.
Learn how to use IBM App Connect
Two new tutorials explain how to combine IBM BPM with IBM App Connect. One tutorial explains how to call a Salesforce API from IBM BPM. The other tutorial shows you how to call out from IBM App Connect to an HTTP endpoint such as the IBM BPM REST API. For more information, see Overview: Integrating external services.
Restrict rights to create and update saved searches by using an action policy
As an administrator, you can now restrict user rights on saved searches. When multiple people can create and update saved searches, performance issues might occur that affect the whole system and other users. Furthermore, these issues are difficult to detect and discover. For more information, see Administering Process Portal searches and saved searches and Configuration properties for Process Portal action policies.

IBM Process Federation Server

Monitor and administer running instances of Process Federation Server
With recent changes to Process Federation Server, you can now monitor a running server to gather basic key performance indicators (KPIs) and detect possible issues. You can also perform actions, such as delaying the process change log table compaction, without having to restart the server. For more information, see Monitoring indexers with MBeans.
Restrict rights to create and update saved searches by using security roles
You can now restrict user rights on saved searches by using two new user roles. For more information, see Administering Process Portal searches and saved searches and The Process Federation Server REST APIs.
