Building information modeling (BIM) in Maximo Asset Management

Building information modeling (BIM) is a 3D digital representation of a building and a set of process that use that representation for construction projects, such as buildings, roads, and bridges. This standard is used during the design and builds phases of construction and is also adopted for building operations.

The model that is created during a construction project describes the infrastructure and contents of a building. The data from the model is extracted into Construction-Operations Building information exchange (COBie) format and you can then import the data into the Building Information Modeling (BIM) Projects application in Maximo® Asset Management.

The model that is provided after construction is the as-built state of the building. Building owners who commission a building need the information in the model to be available in the BIM Projects application before facilities management begins. By using the BIM Projects application, you can collaborate and gather information throughout the design and building phase of a construction project and import the data before the building is completed.

After the data is imported, you can view a 3D visualization of the model in context with the imported data. This visualization can improve the efficiency of the maintenance work planning and execution process. You can export the as-maintained data to update the model for a renovation project.

You can search the Support knowledge base for technotes that are related to troubleshooting BIM in Maximo Asset Management. If no information is available, the search returns no results.
