Giving users access to Work Centers
Supervisors, technicians, and business analysts in the organization can be given access to use a Work Center that is suited to their roles in Maximo® Asset Management. You give access to the Work Centers by creating security groups, giving those groups access to specific object structures, and associating a Work Center with the security groups.
Before you begin
In the Users application, ensure that user records are created for the members of your organization.
To access the Work Centers, a web application archive (WAR) file that is called maximo-x.war must be built and deployed to the application server. If you use the configuration program after the installation, this deployment procedure occurs automatically.
After the WAR file is deployed and the security groups are configured, users who are in a security group that has an associated Work Center can open the Work Center by adding the /maximo-x context root to the Maximo Asset Management URL instead of the existing context; /maximo. For example, they can access the Work center by typing the following URL into a browser window: http://hostname:port/maximo-x.
About this task
Any security group can be associated with a Work Center.
Do not assign a user to more than one security group that has an associated Work Center. If a user is assigned to more than one security group that has an associated Work Center, a Work Center is displayed at random.
Procedure
- In the Security Groups application, create a security group for the group of users that you want to assign to a Work Center. For example, create a security group called SUPERVISOR.
- In the Work Center field, specify SUPERVISOR.
- On the Object Structures tab, ensure that the specific object structures that are required for the Work Center are enabled. For a full list of object structures that must be enabled for Work Center security groups, see the Object structures for Work Centers information.
- To add users to the Supervisor security group, on the Users tab, add a row and select a user. The associated user information populates the other fields.
- Save your changes.
- To grant users access to the Technician and Business Analyst Work Centers, repeat steps 1-5 to create a security group and associate a Work Center with each group of users.
