Write once, read many (WORM)

Write once, read many (WORM) tape cartridge and microcode controls.

Some records retention and data security applications require the WORM function of tape data storage. The 3592 tape drives, when used with WORM media, can serve as a replacement to the IBM® 3995 Optical Library where long-term records retention is required.

WORM function is accomplished on the 3592 by a combination of a special WORM tape cartridge and microcode controls in the drive. All 3592 drives with the appropriate microcode version installed can read and write WORM cartridges.
