This topic provides details about the feature codes (FCs) available for the 3592-C07 controller.
This feature provides an update to the microcode of an installed 3592-C07 and the attached tape drives. It updates to the latest level of functional microcode firmware. Newer microcode levels might be required when adding new functions.

This feature provides an attachment cable for connection of a TS3000 System Console (TSSC) and an Ethernet switch for expanding the number of units that can be attached to the TSSC or Master Console for Service. Up to 14 additional connections are provided by this feature for connection of FC 2715 or another 2714. FC 2714 can attach to any existing FC 2721, FC 2722, or FC 2732 console.

This feature provides a cable to attach a unit to the Ethernet switch provided by the TS3000 System Console or the Console Expansion (FC 2714). A maximum of 40 of FC 2715 can be included in a single master console facility. FC 2715 can attach to any existing FC 2721, FC 2722, or FC 2732 console.

This feature provides a rack mount version of the TS3000 System Console for installation. This feature provides a TSSC server, keyboard, display, mouse, and Ethernet switch. It includes a console upgrade previously provided as FC 2719 (Memory upgrade to 2 GB total RAM and a second Ethernet card for the TSSC to allow redundant connections into the service network).
The total distance from the frame to an external TSSC cannot exceed 31 m (101 ft). Customers not in the qualified countries list (see Limitations section) who purchase FC 2732 must provide an external modem that is supported by the TSSC server.

This feature provides an internal modem installed in the TSSC server (FC 2732). See the country Limitations section for a list of countries where the modem is qualified for use.

This feature provides a single Fibre Channel cable between a supported tape drive and a Fibre Channel switch in a stand-alone rack for connection to a 3592-C07 that is installed in the stand-alone rack. One FC 3062 should be specified for each tape drive attached to the 3592-C07 in the rack.

This feature provides one short-wavelength FICON® adapter, with an LC Duplex connector, for the attachment of supported tape drives through the 3592-C07 to a FICON host system short-wavelength channel utilizing a 50-micron multimode fibre cable. The total cable length cannot exceed 150 m (492 ft). Each FICON attachment can support up to 128 logical channels.
FICON cables can be separately ordered with FC 9762.

This feature provides one long-wavelength FICON adapter, with an LC Duplex connector, for the attachment of a supported tape drive through the 3592-C07 to a FICON host system long-wavelength channel utilizing a 9-micron single-mode fibre cable. The total cable length cannot exceed 4 km (2.48 mi.). Each FICON attachment can support up to 128 logical channels.
FICON cables can be separately ordered with FC 9752 or FC 9793.

This feature provides one longwave FICON adapter, with an LC Duplex connector, for the attachment of TS1120 and later tape drives through the 3592-C07 to a FICON host system long-wavelength channel utilizing a 9-micron single-mode fibre cable. The total cable length cannot exceed 10 km (6.21 mi.). Each FICON attachment can support up to 128 logical channels.
FICON cables can be separately ordered with FC 9752 or FC 9793.

This feature indicates that supported tape drives are directly connected to a 3592-C07. See also FC 9493 Direct connect drives/plant.
For rack-installed tape drives, a minimum of one FC 3062 (Drive-to-switch cable) is required for each supported tape drive, with a maximum of four FC 3062.
If you are direct connecting drives to the 3584 Model L23/D23, cables can be ordered with the supported tape drives or supplied by the customer.

This feature provides the required hardware to support attachment of tape drives through a 4 Gb or 8 Gb Fibre Channel switch for connection to a 3592-C07 in a 3952-F05 frame or rack. It includes the mounting hardware and instructions for installing the Fibre Channel switch in the 3952-F05 frame or rack. Fibre Channel cables from the tape drives to the switch in the rack with the controller are included by specifying FC 3062 (one or two for each tape drive). For the multi-rack attachment of supported tape drives in other racks to the switch, the cables should be ordered with the drives.

This feature provides the mounting hardware and instructions for installing a second 4 Gb or 8 Gb Fibre Channel switch in a 3952-F05 frame or rack.

In the 3584 tape library environment, this feature provides enablement of the integrated library manager and two additional hard disk drives for the library manager database. FC 4444 enables all other 3592-C07s in the logical library to communicate with the TS3500 Tape Library. This feature is required on the first two controllers in the logical library.

This feature provides one 8 Gb Fibre Channel switch with 20 LC shortwave ports. The 8 Gb Fibre Channel switch has dual power connections for attachment to separate power supplies. Intermix of the 4 Gb and 8 Gb Fibre Channel switches is not supported. The 8 Gb Fibre Channel switch supports attachment of up to 16 TS1120 and later tape drives to a 3592-C07.

This feature allows the customer to provide a 4 Gb Fibre Channel switch that was removed from an IBM controller or a 3953 Model F05 and reinstall it for attachment to the 3592-C07. Intermix of the 4 Gb and 8 Gb Fibre Channel switches is not supported for use with a 3592-C07.

This feature is required on all 3592-C07 controllers that have a supported tape drive attached to the controller.

This feature provides one 31 meter (101 ft), 50 micron, multimode fibre cable with LC connectors on both ends. The cable is used for connection between the short wavelength FICON feature and a host system or fibre component short wavelength channel with a 50 micron fibre cable LC Duplex adapter.

This feature provides one 31 meter (101 ft) 9 micron multimode fibre cable with an LC Duplex connector on one end and a standard connector (SC) Duplex connector on the other end. The LC Duplex connector is used for connection to the short wavelength FICON feature. The SC Duplex connector is used for connection to a host system or fibre component short wavelength channel with a 9 micron fibre cable SC Duplex adapter.
