Downloading the XML data configuration file

To configure the integration with IBM® Rational® Insight®, you must download the XML data configuration (XDC) file for IBM Rational DOORS®. Use the Rational Insight XML Data Configuration tool to create and verify connections for the integration.

Before you begin

The required components for this procedure are listed in Integrating Rational DOORS and Rational Insight.
Important: To enable the Rational Insight data warehouse to request data from Rational DOORS, you must add the following entry in the properties section of the Rational DOORS Web Access festival.xml file, which is located here: DWA_install_directory\server\festival\config\

Then stop and start the web access server, as described in Running Rational DOORS Web Access.

About this task

The preconfigured XDC file is designed to work for both Rational DOORS and IBM Rational DOORS Next Generation. It contains a resource group for each. The resource group for Rational DOORS is populated with all required fields. You must use the Rational Insight XML Data Configuration tool to supply information for the RRC resource group.

Procedure

  1. Download the preconfigured XDC file from the Rational DOORS Web Access server at: http(s)://hostname:port/dwa-rrtranslator/etlfiles.zip. Replace the protocol (http or https), host name, and port to match the Rational DOORS Web Access server.
    After launching this URL in a browser, you are prompted to log in.
  2. Enter the user name and password for the Rational DOORS reporting user.
    The user name and password that you enter will be used to configure the XDC file.
    After successful authentication, you are prompted to save and extract the contents of the etlfiles.zip file, which contains XDC file, doors.xdc.
  3. To open the Rational Insight XML Data Configuration tool, click Start > All Programs > IBM Rational Reporting Development Tools > XML Data Configuration.
  4. In the XML Data Configuration tool, open the doors.xdc file, which you extracted from the etlfiles.zip file.
  5. Expand the nodes to locate the RRC resources group.
  6. Expand the RRC node to access the DOORS and RRC nodes.
  7. Open the RRC node and supply the following values:
    • Enter the URL for the Rational DOORS Next Generation report publishing URL: https://RRC_server:port/rm/publish.
    • For the Authentication Type, select OAuth.
    • Type the user name and password for Rational DOORS Next Generation reporting.
    • Save your changes.
  8. To enable Rational DOORS to send data to the Rational Insight data warehouse, you must add the following entry in properties section of the festival.xml file, which is located here: DWA_install_directory\server\festival\config\

  9. Optional: To verify the connection in the XML Data Configuration tool, expand the nodes to find the DOORS resources group. Open it and click Test Connection. Repeat the test at the RRC node.
