What's new in ZD&T V12.0.3

The following new features and changes are added for ZD&T Version 12.0.3.

ZD&T Personal Edition

  • A separate installer ZDT_Install_PE_V12.0.3.0.tgz is available for you to install Personal Edition. For more information, see Installing Personal Edition.
  • The ADCD z/OS® V2.3 November 2018 Edition is available. For more information, see Installation packages.

ZD&T Enterprise Edition

  • A separate installer ZDT_Install_EE_V12.0.3.0.tgz is available for you to install Enterprise Edition. You can use the new option 4 to install ZD&T emulator that will be configured to use the ZD&T Hardware-based or Software-based licensing. For more information, see Installing Enterprise Edition and Installing ZD&T emulator.
  • The ADCD z/OS V2.3 November 2018 Edition is available. For more information, see Installation packages.
  • The Monitor and Manage page supports the following new functions:
    • Updating a deployment

After you deploy an application image that contains multiple versions to a Linux target environment, you can update the deployment with a new version of the application image. For more information, see Updating a successful deployment.

    • Updating an emulator

The Target environments section on the Monitor and Manage page now shows the version number of the emulator that is installed. If an unknown or earlier version of emulator is installed, the link to update the emulator to the latest version will be available next to the displayed version. For more information, see Updating the emulator to the latest version.

  • On the Deploy page, the Update deployment tab is added. You can also update a successful deployment on the Deploy page. For more information, see Updating a deployment to a Linux target environment.
  • The JAR file that provides SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) support for transferring extracted z/OS artifacts to the image store server is updated and renamed to zDTMainframeSFTP.jar. To create a new volume, data set, or CICS® component by using ZD&T Enterprise Edition, you must update the ZD&T extraction utility SFTP module to the latest version.
  • The function of updating a deployment is added in the REST APIs User's Guide. For more information, see Updating an application image to a Linux target environment.

ZD&T Parallel Sysplex

zPDT Emulator 1.9

The zPDT® driver that is used in ZD&T is updated to zPDT V1.9. The new emulator includes the following changes:
  • General performance improvements were made, especially the improvements that are directed to Java™ performance.
  • Two special CCWs are available for awstape management. These CCWs allow suitable programs to query or change the name of Linux file that is associated with an emulated tape drive.
  • A devmap option allows the zPDT instance name to be specified. Using this option allows the Linux user ID under which zPDT runs to have more than 8 characters.
  • A devmap option might be used to specify the Linux file to receive messages that the z operating system routes to the HMC hardware console. The default routing is to the Linux command window that was used to start zPDT.
  • The adstop and storestop commands were removed.
  • The sizes of two Linux kernel parameters set by the aws_sysctl script were changed. The shmmax size is now 36,000,000,000, and the shmall size is now 24,000,000. These values are twice the previous values, and the values are more appropriate for larger PC memory sizes.
  • CFCC level 23 is included.
  • A restricted zEDC emulation is available for z/OS, but not for z/VM®.
  • Selected channel or device measurement data is available through the designed interface.
  • The translate table that is used to covert EBCDIC to ASCII is improved.
  • The gen2_init command that is used for Gen2 licenses includes an option to remove the Gen2 license modules.
  • A long-standing problem with layer 2 VSWITCH was corrected.
  • The Gen2 license server and client no longer require 32-bit Linux support libraries.
  • The alcckd utility now supports the definition of emulated 3390 volumes with exactly 65,520 cylinders.
