Custom views

Use the IBM® Cloud Application Business Insights Universal View to enhance the value that the predefined Application Performance Dashboard pages already provide by customizing your own pages.

The Universal View can be used to display resource monitoring data. It cannot be used to display synthetic transaction data, transaction tracking data, response time agent data, and deep-dive diagnostic data. By using the Universal View, you can quickly build monitoring pages for an application and save them for viewing. While viewing a saved custom dashboard page, you can view the dashboard in auto refresh mode or export the dashboard to Raw data file or edit the dashboard, or delete the dashboard.

The four default roles in Cloud APM: Role Administrator, Monitoring Administrator, System Administrator, and Monitoring User have different permissions to view and modify dashboard pages. For more information, see Table 1. Roles and permissions .

The options that are available in the Custom Views tab depend on whether the page is being edited or viewed.

Note:
  • If you are using a public or private Firefox browser window, you might see a blank page when you select the Custom Views tab of the Cloud APM console. To display custom views, you need to turn off enhanced tracking protection for the Cloud APM console website in your browser. The steps to turn off enhanced tracking protection depend on the version of your Firefox browser.
    • If there is a shield icon in front of the website address field, click it and look for an option to turn off enhanced tracking protection for theCloud APM console website.
    • If your version of Firefox does not support turning off enhanced tracking protection for a specific website, configure the privacy settings for your browser. For the enhanced tracking protection privacy settings, configure custom settings to turn off cookie blocking or only block cookies from unvisited websites. Also turn off tracking protection for your browser window type (public or private browser window). You need to reload your browser tabs after changing the privacy settings. If the custom views tab is still blank after changing your browser settings, clear your browser cache and cookies, close your browser window, and log into the Cloud APM console again.
    • Sometimes when you first log in to the Cloud APM console after the Cloud APM server is initially installed or updated, you might miss the opportunity to accept the default self-signed certificate if pop-ups are disabled in your browser. In this case, when Custom Views is selected, Firefox will display the Did Not Connect: Potential Security Issue page, and will not allow you to continue by adding an exception. You need to manually add the exception to your browser by updating the Firefox settings:
      • 1. Go to about:preferences, and search for View Certificates.
      • 2. Select View Certificates in the search results.
      • 3. Select the Servers tab, and click Add Exception.
      • 4. Enter the URL in the format https://<APM V8 Server Hostname>:8093. The hostname must match the hostname of your Cloud APM server, and the port must be 8093.
      • 5. Click Get Certificate.
      • 6. Click Confirm Security Exception.
      • 7. Click OK, and exit the Preferences page.
      • 8. Reload the Cloud APM console page.
