Deprecated and removed features of IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7

IBM® Business Process Manager V8.5.7 extends capabilities that are found in previous versions of IBM Business Process Manager, IBM Integration Designer, WebSphere® Lombardi Edition, WebSphere Process Server IBM Integration Designer, IBM WebSphere Lombardi Edition, WebSphere Process Server, and other business process management products. Some features of those other products or previous versions are deprecated and removed in IBM BPM V8.5.7.

Deprecated features

If a feature is listed as deprecated, or certain system requirements are indicated as deprecated on the Software Product Compatibility Reports website, IBM might remove this capability or support in a subsequent release of the product to focus on follow-on technologies or the strategic feature that is listed under Action. Typically, a feature is not deprecated unless an equivalent alternative is provided or available. A feature is not removed for at least two releases after the deprecation of the feature is declared. In rare cases, it might be necessary to remove features sooner; such cases are indicated in the descriptions of these removed features.

The following features from previous releases are deprecated in IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7.

RHEL 5.x	Support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.x is deprecated.	Use a supported version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
SLED	Support for SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (all versions) on x86 is deprecated.	Use a supported operating system.
DB2 V9.7 and V9.8	Support for DB2 V9.7 and V9.8 is deprecated.	Use a supported version of DB2.
Oracle 11g Enterprise/Standard R1	In IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 Cumulative Fix 2016.12, support for Oracle 11g Enterprise/Standard R1 is deprecated.	Use a supported version of Oracle.
Internet Explorer 9	Support for Internet Explorer 9 is deprecated for IBM Business Process Manager, IBM Integration Designer, and IBM Process Designer. In IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 Cumulative Fix 2016.12, Internet Explorer 9 is no longer supported, except for use with Windows Server 2008 SP2 (R2).	Use a supported browser.
Internet Explorer 10	Because Microsoft provide security updates only for the most current version of Internet Explorer that is available for a supported operating system, IBM Business Process Manager support for Internet Explorer 10 is deprecated, except for use with Windows Server 2012 operating system. In IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 Cumulative Fix 2016.12, Internet Explorer 10 is no longer supported, except for use with Windows Server 2012 operating system.	Business users should use a newer version of Internet Explorer or a different supported browser. Administrators on Windows Server 2012 operating system can continue to use Internet Explorer 10.
Safari 6 and 7 for macOS	In IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 Cumulative Fix 2016.12, support for Safari 6 and 7 for macOS is deprecated.	Use a supported version of Safari.
Safari on iOS 8.x	In IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 Cumulative Fix 2017.03, Safari on iOS 8.x on iPhones and iPads is deprecated.	Use a supported version of Safari.
Typical installation from the product launchpad	In IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 Cumulative Fix 2017.06, using typical installation to install IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 is deprecated.	Use Installation Manager to install IBM Business Process Manager and the BPMConfig command to set up the environment. For more information, see Roadmap: Installing and configuring and BPMConfig command-line utility.
Launchpad for Integration Designer	In IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 Cumulative Fix 2017.06, using the Launchpad to install Integration Designer and the test environment is deprecated.	Use Installation Manager to install IBM Business Process Manager and Integration Designer, and then configure the test environment manually.
Quick Start	In IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 Cumulative Fix 2017.06, using the Quick Start console to start or stop the IBM Business Process Manager environment is deprecated.	Use the BPMConfig command. For more information, see BPMConfig command-line utility.
Saved search APIs	The saved search REST APIs are deprecated.	Use the replacement REST APIs, such as /rest/bpm/wle/v1/searches/tasks and /rest/bpm/federated/v1/searches/tasks .
Dojo-based stock controls	Support for Dojo-based stock controls is deprecated.	Use the AngularJS-based responsive stock controls.
Task collaboration	Task collaboration in Heritage Process Portal is deprecated.	Use screen sharing software or share data between participants by using portal dashboards to display data from shared business objects.
IBM Case Manager	IBM Process Designer support for integration with IBM Case Manager is deprecated.	To create, search for, retrieve, or update case instances, use IBM Case Manager APIs.
Basic Case Management	The capabilities that are available with the Basic Case Management feature from V8.5.5 and V8.5.6, document types, case folders, and the IBM BPM content store Enterprise Content Management server, can still be used on upgraded deployment environments, but their usage is deprecated.	Change the content management method to IBM BPM, as described in Changing the way enterprise content is accessed. Use documents and folders in an external Enterprise Content Management system as described in Integrating with Enterprise Content Management (ECM) systems.
Heritage coaches	Heritage coaches are deprecated.	Use coaches. For more information, see Difference between coaches and heritage coaches.
Responsive controls	In IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 Cumulative Fix 2017.06, the following responsive controls are deprecated: The responsive controls in the Responsive Coaches toolkit.	Use the BPM UI toolkit instead. For more information, see Controls in the BPM UI toolkit.
IBM FileNet P8 Content Manager Version 5.0	Support for IBM FileNet P8 Content Manager Version 5.0 is deprecated for IBM Integration Designer.	Migrate to IBM Content Foundation Version 5.1 or 5.2.
Heritage Process Portal	In IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 Cumulative Fix 2016.12, Heritage Process Portal is deprecated.	Use Process Portal.
Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC)	Process Designer support for OSLC is deprecated.
Desktop Process Designer	In IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 Cumulative Fix 2017.03, the desktop Process Designer is deprecated.	Instead of using the desktop Process Designer, use the corresponding functionality in web Process Designer.
Desktop Process Designer functionality	In IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 Cumulative Fix 2017.03, the desktop Process Designer editors for the following concepts are also deprecated: Business Process Definition (BPD) Decision Table Business Action Language (BAL) Rule Ajax service Decision service General System service Integration service	Use the corresponding functionality in web Process Designer: Instead of BPDs, use processes. To implement simple rules and decision tables, use JavaScript. To implement complex rules, use IBM ODM. To implement the following deprecated desktop Process Designer services, use service flows, which are more generic: Ajax service Decision service General System service Integration service For more information about service flows, see Creating a service flow.
Optimization and simulation	In IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 Cumulative Fix 2017.03, desktop Process Designer support for optimization and simulation is deprecated. This includes the Optimizer tab, historical and simulation analysis scenarios, and related properties.
Rational product integration	In IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 Cumulative Fix 2017.03, support for the following in Process Designer is deprecated. Rational Team Concert Rational Quality Manager Rational Requirements Composer Rational Rhapsody Design Manager
tuneBPM command	The tuneBPM command is deprecated. In IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 Cumulative Fix 2016.12, the tuneBPM command is removed.	For the performance tuning properties `appCluster.bpdCapacity` and `appCluster.threadPoolSize`, use the updateBPMConfig command to update the corresponding settings in the 100Custom.xml file. For more information see updateBPMConfig command. All other tuneBPM performance tuning properties were deprecated in V8.5.6. They can be updated by using the `-performanceTuning` option of the BPMConfig command. For more information, see BPMConfig command-line utility.
BPMProcessInstancesCleanup command	The BPMProcessInstancesCleanup command is deprecated.	Use the BPMProcessInstancesPurge command. For more information, see BPMProcessInstancesPurge command.
Monitor model debugger	The monitor model debugger is deprecated because it supports only Common Event Infrastructure (CEI) events, which are already deprecated.	Test and debug monitor model logic by deploying the monitor model to a test business monitor server and generating test events to test the processing of the monitor model. See Testing monitor models in the test environment.
SAP Solution Manager integration	Support for SAP Solution Manager is deprecated. This includes importing, exporting, round-tripping, auto-generation of SAP Guided Workflow from a Solution Manager import, manually generated guided workflow, and the SAP screen coach view.	Use the external activity URL.
Java 6	Support for Java 6 is deprecated.	Use Java 7.
HTTP	In IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 Cumulative Fix 2016.12, use of the insecure HTTP protocol is deprecated. Using the configBSpaceTransport.py script to allow insecure access to Heritage Process Portal is deprecated. Use of the endpoint strategies `CurrentJVMInsecureStrategy`, `XForwardedHeaderDefaultHttpStrategy`, and `CurrentJVMDefaultTransportStrategy` are deprecated.	Use the secure HTTPS protocol.

Removed features

The following features from previous releases are removed in IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7:

Internet Explorer 10	In IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 Cumulative Fix 2016.12, Internet Explorer 10 is no longer supported, except for use with Windows Server 2012 operating system.	Business users should use a newer version of Internet Explorer or a different supported browser. Administrators on Windows Server 2012 operating system can continue to use Internet Explorer 10.
WebSphere InterChange Migration wizard, WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation Migration wizard	The WebSphere InterChange Migration wizard and WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation Migration wizard are not supported in IBM Integration Designer V8.5.7.	If you have applications that run on WebSphere InterChange Server or WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation, or applications that you created that use IBM WebSphere Adapters, you cannot migrate the applications directly to V8.5.7. You must migrate them using another version of IBM Integration Designer V8.5.x and then upgrade to V8.5.7.
BPMConfig command performance-tuning configuration file options	The following BPMConfig performance-tuning configuration file options are removed: `-jvm configuration_file` for updating the Java virtual machine (JVM) performance-tuning properties `-jms configuration_file` for updating the connection factory and activation specification performance-tuning properties `-workManager configuration_file` for updating the work manager performance-tuning properties `-threadPool configuration_file` for updating the thread pool performance-tuning properties `-webContainer configuration_file` for updating the web container performance-tuning properties `-orb configuration_file` for updating the Object Request Broker (ORB) performance-tuning properties `-messagingEngine configuration_file` for updating the messaging engine performance-tuning properties	Use the `-performanceTuning` option. For example `BPMConfig -update -performanceTuning configuration_file` For more information, see BPMConfig command-line utility.
tuneBPM	In IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 Cumulative Fix 2016.12, the tuneBPM command is removed. bpcTemplates.jacl	The bpcTemplates.jacl administrative script is removed.	To start or stop process and task templates that belong to a particular application, or to uninstall BPEL applications and human task applications, use manageTemplates.py. For more information, see manageTemplates.py command.
Microsoft Office Add-On and Microsoft SharePoint Add-On	Microsoft Office Add-On and Microsoft SharePoint Add-On are no longer supported.
Migration from Teamworks 6	Migration from Teamworks 6 to IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 is not supported.
Migration from WebSphere Lombardi Edition V7.0 or V7.1.0	Migration from WebSphere Lombardi Edition V7.0 or V7.1.0 to IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 is not supported.
Migration from WebSphere Lombardi Edition V7.2.0	Migration from WebSphere Lombardi Edition V7.2.0 to IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 cumulative fix 2017.03 or later is not supported.	Migrate to IBM BPM V8.5.7.201612 then install the latest cumulative fix that is available from IBM Support.
Migration from WebSphere Process Server V6.2.0.x	Migration from WebSphere Process Server V6.2.0.x to IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 cumulative fix 2017.03 or later is not supported.	Migrate to IBM BPM V8.5.7.201612 then install the latest cumulative fix that is available from IBM Support.
