Db2 function level support

When you activate new Db2 function levels in a Db2 subsystem or data sharing group, enhancements might become available that impact IBM Db2 Query Monitor for z/OS.

The levels of function level support are defined as follows:
Tolerated
The product works as it did on a previous release or function level of Db2 for z/OS, but it does not support the new features of this function level.
Supported
The product supports most, but not necessarily all, of the new function-level features that IBM deems the most significant for this product.

General considerations

Query Monitor uses FMID HCQC110 to install monitoring agents in Db2. Hence, when Db2 is stopped and restarted, Query Monitor detects whether Db2 startup and its monitoring agents are installed. It is recommended to follow these best practices for Query Monitor and Db2 maintenance, or when activating a Function Level:
  • When applying service levels for Db2, apply the same to Query Monitor.
  • When stopping Db2, stop Query Monitor as well. This can clean up the Query Monitor-started task memory that is associated with the previously running Db2.
  • For a new function level or version of Db2, it is recommended to stop CQM and CQMMSTR.
  • For CQM-only service upgrades, it is recommended to stop both CQM and CQMMSTR. After maintenance, recycle both CQM and CQMMSTR to avoid missing the CQMMSTR restart when it is required.
  • When applying service levels to z/OS, the current service levels of Query Monitor should be installed.
