Notifications

The Notifications settings manage notifications for individual or multiple apps on a supervised device.

Notification settings

The following table describes the settings that the administrator can configure for app notifications on a supervised iOS device:
Policy setting Description Supported devices
App name The name of the app where notification settings are managed. You can enter multiple apps or create multiple profiles to manage notifications from various apps. iOS 9.3+
Disable all notifications All notification settings from apps are disabled on supervised devices.
  • Disable notifications in the notification center: Notifications from apps are disabled in the Notification Center on supervised devices.
  • Disable notifications in lock screen: Notifications from apps are disabled from displaying on the Lock screen of supervised devices.
  • Notification alert type: Notifications from apps are displayed as alerts on supervised devices.
  • Disable badges: Badge notifications from apps are disabled on supervised devices.
  • Disable sounds for notifications: Sound notifications from apps are disabled on supervised devices.
  • Disable notifications in CarPlay: The notifications on the device are disabled during CarPlay mode. This restriction setting is supported on iOS 12.0+ devices.
  • Enable critical notification: An app can set a notification as a critical notification on the device by overriding the Do Not Disturb setting and the device ringer settings. This setting is disabled by default in the policy. This restriction setting is supported on iOS 12.0+ devices.
  • Grouping type: Notifications on devices are grouped by the following types:
    • Automatic (app specified groups): The notification on the device is grouped based on apps and depends on how an individual app displays the notification.
    • By app: The notification from an app is grouped by a single notification and displays the number of alerts that are available for an app.
    • Off: The notification on the device is not grouped and all notifications are displayed in sequence.

    The default mode set to group notifications is Automatic (app specified groups).

    This restriction setting is supported on iOS 12.0+ devices.
  • Preview Type: Controls how notifications previews are displayed on iOS 14+ devices. Supports the following options:
    • Preview Always: Displays notification previews when the device is locked or unlocked.
    • Preview When Unlocked: Displays notification previews when the device is unlocked.
    • Restrict Preview: Restricts notification previews on the device.
