Version 3.1.1

This section includes the new features and functionality included in IBM® Db2® Data Management Console v3.1.1.

AIX® support

IBM Db2 Data Management Console v3.1.1 now supports AIX platform.

Onboarding

IBM Db2 Data Management Console provides a quick and convenient onboarding experience to setup and configure the console. As a database administrator, you can now log into the console and easily perform all the necessary configurations, add database connections and check the status of connections for analyzing the performance of your database.

Notification Center

Added a notification center with the following alerts:
  • Incomplete recovery
  • Database partition availability
  • Buffer pool hit ratio
  • Buffer pool asynchronous write ratio
  • Buffer pool asynchronous read ratio
  • Catalog cache hit ratio
  • Application connections with excessive lock waits over request time
  • Package cache hit ratio
  • Rows read per fetched row
  • Rollback transactions
  • Database availability
  • Standby database log receive buffer full
  • Standby database in replay-only window
  • Standby log receiving falling behind log shipping from primary
  • Rate of table lock events increases
  • Buffer pool hit ratio degrades

Alerts

In addition to providing for the alerts available in Data Server Manager, 18 new configuration-based alerts are introduced in IBM Db2 Data Management Console v3.1.1. Some of these alerts have auto-fix capabilities to enable the user apply solutions/fixes suggested by the console. The following alerts are grouped under performance category.
  • Sequential Detection (Seqdetect)
  • Utility Impact Limit (Util_Impact_Lim)
  • Block On Log Disk Full Configuration
  • Client I/O Block Size (Rqrioblk)
  • Log Retain Enable (Logretain)
  • Number Of I/O Servers Configuration Parameter
  • Number Of Asynchronous Page Cleaners Configuration
  • Workload Management Collection Interval
  • Automatic Runstats Collection
  • Automatic Maintenance
  • Sort Heap Threshold
  • Package Cache Hit Ratio
  • Changed Pages Threshold
  • Package Cache Overflows
  • Sort Overflows
  • Diagnostic Level
  • Notify Level Configuration Parameter
  • Log File Size (Logfilsiz)Note: These alerts will not be available on AIX

z/OS® Configuration

IBM Db2 Data Management Console v3.1.1 supports connectivity and enables monitoring capabilities for Db2 for z/OS version 11 and above. This release also features a first of its kind no-charge monitoring dashboard for Db2 for z/OS connections.

Note: The ADMIN_INFO_IFCID stored procedure must be configured on Db2 for z/OS systems to be monitored. For more information, see ADMIN_INFO_IFCID stored procedure.

The Db2z monitoring dashboard consists of the following seven widgets that display various key performance indicators (KPIs) using easy to read graphs. Each of the widgets barring the database availability widget displays data from the past hour. If the monitored system goes down, data for the time period that the system is down will not be collected.
  • Database Availability – This widget displays the number of active threads that run on the current system.
  • Database Throughput–This widget displays the total number of selects, updates, inserts, and deletes made against the database on the system that is being monitored.
  • Commits–This widget displays the total number of commits made against the database on the system that is being monitored.
  • CPU Usage–This widget displays the current usage rate of the CPU on the system that is being monitored for each of the address spaces on the system which includes the following: MSTR, DIST, IRLM, DBT.
  • Real Available Memory–This widget displays the current memory that is available on the system that is being monitored in megabytes(MB).
  • Database Contention–This widget displays the number of locks being held by the database on the system being monitored.
Email and SNMP notifications
  • Configure email and SNMP server information in the respective pages.
  • Configure notification rule in the monitor profile.
Monitoring KPI
  • Added a Utilities monitor page for viewing the top consumers of data server resources. The Utilities page enables users to get information about the database utilities such as LOAD, REORG, RUNSTATS and more.
  • Enhanced monitoring by setting up watchdog stored procedures and Administrative Task Scheduler (ATS) tasks in the monitored Db2 database to disable event monitoring, when needed.
  • Added a ‘Database time spent’ monitor page that provides a summary chart namely 'Database time breakdown' which provides information about where the time is being spent by the database.
  • Added a ‘Database resource usage’ monitor page that provides an overview of the most current metrics of the database. Each metric uses line charts for displaying the current data trend. The chart also provides a baseline for metrics to help users to identify issues.

Lightweight migration

IBM Db2 Data Management Console v3.1.1 supports migration of only the basic data such as connection profile data, monitor profile data (excluding historical monitor data) from IBM Data Server Manager. The basic data occupies less space when compared to historical monitor data and is migrated to another database as the repository of IBM Db2 Data Management Console.
