Creating a virtual switch

You can create a virtual switch on a server by using the Hardware Management Console (HMC).

To create a virtual switch, complete the following steps:

  1. In the navigation pane, expand Systems Management, click Servers, and select the server on which the logical partition is located.
  2. In the Tasks pane, click Configuration > Virtual resources > Virtual Network Management.
  3. Click Actions > Create VSwitch.
  4. In the VSwitch field, specify a name for the virtual switch.

The HMC Classic interface is not supported in Hardware Management Console (HMC) Version 8.7.0, or later. The functions that were previously available in the HMC Classic interface are now available in the HMC Enhanced+ interface.

For more information about creating a virtual switch when the HMC is at version 8.7.0, or later, see Adding a virtual network by creating a virtual network bridge.

  5. Click OK.
