Use this procedure to remove a Redundant Array of Independent
Disks (RAID)/cache enablement card before installing a new or upgraded
RAID/cache enablement card.
Identify the system that you will be working on by using
the identify the system process to turn on the system locate (blue)
indicator. For more information, see Control panel LEDs and Enabling enclosure indicators.
If your system is managed by
the
Hardware Management Console (
HMC), use the
HMC to remove the enablement
card from the server. For instructions, see
Removing a part using the Hardware Management Console.
If
you do not have an HMC,
complete the following steps to remove the enablement card:
- Complete the prerequisite tasks.
For instructions, see Before you
begin.
- Stop the system. For instructions, see Stopping a system or logical
partition.
- Place the system into the service position. For instructions,
see Placing a rack-mounted
system into the service position.
- Remove the service access cover. For instructions, see Removing the
service access cover for the system.
- Use the service indicator light-emitting
diodes (LEDs) to help identify the part. For instructions, see Identifying a part.
- Disconnect the power source from
the system by unplugging the system.
- Attach the wrist strap.
Attention: - Attach a wrist strap to an unpainted metal surface of your hardware
to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) from damaging your hardware.
- When using a wrist strap, follow all electrical safety procedures.
A wrist strap is for static control. It does not increase or decrease
your risk of receiving electric shock when using or working on electrical
equipment.
- If you do not have a wrist strap, just prior to removing the product
from ESD packaging and installing or replacing hardware, touch an
unpainted metal surface of the system for a minimum of 5 seconds.
- Locate the RAID/cache enablement card that you want to
remove.
Note: If an optional tape drive is installed, it
must be moved to access the RAID enablement card.
- Check the cache data valid LED on the cache
battery card on the other side of the system.
Note: The
battery card powers the cache data that is on the RAID card. If the
LED is blinking, you might lose cache data by removing this card.
- Press the tab and slide the card out of the system, as
shown in the following figures.
