Removing the 8412-EAD, 9117-MMB, 9117-MMC, 9117-MMD, 9179-MHB, 9179-MHC, or 9179-MHD control panel with the power on

You can remove the control panel from the server with the power on.

Attention:

Be sure that you read these instructions carefully and understand the complexity of the power-on procedure before you begin. Failure to follow these instructions could result in damage to the system, and could result in loss of data.

If your system is managed by the Hardware Management Console (HMC), use the HMC to complete the steps for removing a control panel. For instructions, see Removing a part by using the HMC. If you do not have an HMC, complete the following procedure to remove a control panel.

Prerequisites

To remove a control panel with the system power on, you must first access the Advanced System Management Interface (ASMI).

To remove the control panel with the system or logical partition powered on, complete the following steps:

  1. Perform the prerequisite tasks. For instructions, see Before you begin.
  2. Access the Advanced System Management Interface (ASMI).
    Attention: Do not reset the service processor, or remove and then reapply power to the system, during this procedure.
  3. In the navigation area of the ASMI, select Concurrent maintenance and then Control panel.
  4. At the Preparing the control panel window, select Remove and click Continue.
  5. Choose the control panel location and click Save Settings. If the operation was successful, the window displays Operation completed successfully.
  6. Remove the front cover from your system. For instructions, see Removing the front cover from the 8412-EAD, 9117-MMB, 9117-MMC, 9117-MMD, 9179-MHB, 9179-MHC, or 9179-MHD .
  7. Remove the control panel.
    1. Place your finger behind the right edge of the Terra Cotta release latch and swivel the locking arm to the left to release the control panel.
    2. Pull the control panel away from the system, as shown in the following figure.
