Business challenges

Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia "Leonardo da Vinci" wanted to extend its visitors base beyond that of school field trips to include tourists and local young to middle-aged adults. In order to gain interest from the younger generations and broaden its audience, the museum wanted to develop a smartphone-dedicated application.

IBM Solution

To effectively store back-end information within the application, such as points of interest, user profiles and geo-locations of various objects, the solution developed in cooperation with business partner Sedona uses the DB2 Enterprise software. The DB2 Spatial Extender software running in the LeonardoAround application, returns spatial coordinates, allowing objects to be positioned on a map for directional purposes, helping users navigate to Leonardo da Vinci-related objects they want to locate.

Business benefits

Providing anyone the LeonardoAround smartphone application, the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia gained the ability to effectively advertise its exhibits, increase general knowledge about the museum and create a way to share the knowledge contained within the museum all across Milan.
