Learn how to replace GX adapters in the 8248-L4T, 8408-E8D, or 9109-RMD with the system
power turned off.
Note: Removing or replacing this feature is
a customer task. You can complete this task yourself, or contact a
service provider to complete the task for you. You might be charged
a fee by the service provider for this service.
If your system is managed by the Hardware Management Console (HMC), use the HMC to replace an adapter.
For instructions, see Exchanging
a part by using the Hardware Management Console.
If your system is not managed by an HMC,
complete the following steps to replace the adapter:
- Attach the wrist strap.
Attention: - Attach a wrist strap to an unpainted metal surface of your hardware
to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) from damaging your hardware.
- When using a wrist strap, follow all electrical safety procedures.
A wrist strap is for static control. It does not increase or decrease
your risk of receiving electric shock when using or working on electrical
equipment.
- If you do not have a wrist strap, just prior to removing the product
from ESD packaging and installing or replacing hardware, touch an
unpainted metal surface of the system for a minimum of 5 seconds.
- Carefully grasp the new adapter assembly by the plastic
latches (A), shown in Figure 1 and align the
adapter assembly with the slot and its connector on the system midplane.
- Slowly slide the adapter along the glides until it stops.
Attention: When you install an
adapter into the system, be sure that it is completely and correctly
seated in its connector.
- With the adapter cover (A) in the
open position, slide the adapter into the slot until it locks.
- Rotate the adapter cover (A) in
the direction shown in Figure 1, and push it
toward the card until the locking tab snaps into place.

- Connect the cable connector (B) to
the GX adapter port.
- Reconnect all power and signal cables to their respective
connectors.
- Close the rear rack door.
- If you are installing the adapter as
part of another procedure, return to that procedure now. If your service
actions are complete, continue with the following steps:
- Start the system. For instructions, see Starting
the system or logical partition.
- Verify the installed part:
- If you replaced the part because of a service action,
verify the installed part. For instructions, see Verifying
a repair.
- If you installed the part for any other reason, verify the installed
part. For instructions, see Verifying
the installed part.
