Verifying that the new configuration is functioning

Use this procedure to verify that your system lists the expansion units in your configuration and that the expansion units are functioning correctly.

  1. Choose from the following options:
    • If your system is managed by an HMC, continue with step 2.
    • If your system is not managed by an HMC, see Verifying the installed part. When you are finished, continue with step 4.
  2. To view more information about the managed system, perform the following steps:
    1. From the HMC navigation area, expand Systems Management.
    2. Click Servers.
    3. Select the system with which you want to work. Information about the system is shown under the Tasks section in the content area.
  3. To verify the new expansion units, complete the following steps:
    1. Select the server for which you want to verify the configuration.
    2. Click Tasks > Properties.
    3. Click the I/O tab.
    4. Verify that the new expansion units are displayed in the list. It might take several minutes for the new expansion units to be displayed in the list.
Tip: To refresh the list of expansion units, repeat steps 3.b and 3.c. It is not necessary to exit the Properties task before repeating these steps, but doing so reduces the number of active tasks.
  4. If the I/O Properties window does not display the new expansion units after 10 minutes, verify the installation by completing the following steps:
    1. Ensure that the expansion units are powered on and that the power cables are connected to the power source and the expansion units.
    2. Ensure that the 12X cables are connected correctly. For details, see Connecting expansion units with 12X cables.
    3. Ensure that the SPCN cables are connected correctly. For details, see Connecting expansion units with SPCN cables.
    4. If the expansion units still are not displayed, contact your next level of support for assistance.
  5. Return to the procedure that sent you here.
