Internal disk drive sharing on an 8202-E4B, 8202-E4C, 8202-E4D, 8205-E6B, 8205-E6C, or 8205-E6D system

Learn how to split the internal disks in the system or enclosure into groups, which you can manage separately.

FC 5618 DASD backplane supports the Split DASD mode. Installing FC 5631 (CCIN 2BE0, SAS Controller/Split DASD enablement card) enables the split mode on the DASD backplane. The three SFF DASDs on the left (from the front view) are assigned to the CCIN 2BE0, and the three SFF DASD on the right are assigned to CCIN 572C (Integrated SAS controller).
Important: This configuration is not supported with the FC 5630 DASD backplane.

For more information on the installation of the adapter, see Installing PCI adapters.

Note: These split DASD features must be installed while the system power is turned off.

Partitioning: The split DASD mode can be useful for partitioning. If setting up two distinct logical partitions (LPARs), the resources associated with CCIN 2BE0 and 572C can be assigned to two distinct partitions. For more information, see Logical Partitioning.

You can now manage the disks as you would manage any other disks.
