Assign a usage to an attribute in a category

You can assign a usage to an attribute to specify about how the attribute will be used in a category. For example, you can specify the usage searchable attributes for an attribute to specify that this attribute is used for searches.

About this task

You can assign a usage to an attribute in a category from the Catalog Management screen.

To assign a usage to an attribute:

Procedure

  1. Navigate to the Catalog Management Screen. To navigate to the Catalog Management screen, perform the following steps:
    1. Log in to Sterling Business Center as an Item Administrator.
    2. The application home page is displayed. Click the Products tab.
    3. From the Products home page, click Manage Catalogs in the Catalog dashlet.
    4. The Catalog List screen is displayed. Click the Catalog ID hyperlink corresponding to the catalog for whose category you want to assign an item.

      The Catalog Management screen is displayed.

  2. From the Catalog Hierarchy tree, select a category.
  3. In the Related Tasks panel, click Manage Attribute Assignment.
  4. The Attributes panel is displayed. Click the Attribute Name hyperlink pertaining to the attribute to which you want to assign a value.
  5. The details of the attribute are displayed. Under Usages, select the following check boxes:
    • Specification - Select this check box to specify that this attribute is displayed as an item specification on the Web channel application. This option is available only when managing the master catalog.
    • For Filter - Select this check box to specify that this attribute is used to narrow the search results on a Web channel application.
      Note: You must use the For Filter option only for those attributes for which valid values have been defined.
  6. For Comparison - Select this check box to specify that this attribute is used to compare items. This option is available only when managing the master catalog.
  7. Click Save.

    The usage is assigned to the attribute.
