Managing datastores
You can add, modify, copy and delete datastores. As well, you can assign the users that have access to the datastore.
The Datastore Management view in the Access Manager perspective in Management Console can only be accessed by a user with the role of System Administrator that has been also been enabled to perform user account and datastore management.
You can use the Datastore Management view to perform several types of operations:
- Add, modify, copy, and delete datastores
- Adding a datastore in Management Console means that you are providing users access to an instance of a CDC Replication Engine for the purposes of configuration, monitoring, and operational control. When adding a new datastore, you can optionally specify information about the database and provide database connection parameters so that users can connect to the datastore. Only users you have assigned to a datastore can connect to the datastore.
- Assign users to a datastore
- Assigning users to a datastore gives them access to an installation of InfoSphere® Data Replication and the ability to connect to the database that you have made available for replication on the server.
- Enable multiple users to work with the same datastore
- Enabling more than one user to work with subscriptions in the same datastore means allowing users to lock subscriptions they want to edit. This makes the subscriptions temporarily unavailable to others, so there are no edit conflicts. A System Administrator enabled to perform user account and datastore administration can also unlock a subscription on behalf of a user (for example, a user locks a subscription, but then goes on vacation; the System Administrator enabled to perform user account and datastore administration can override the lock and make the subscription available to other users now).
- Propagate connection parameters
- Propagating new connection parameters to all users of the datastore eases system administration in that you only have to specify connection parameters once.
- Generate reports on the activities related to a set of datastores
- Generating a report on a specific datastore can help you keep track of which users you have assigned datastore access to and what databases users can access, the date of creation, and the last time it was modified.
