Record IDs
Database record identifiers (IDs) and tape record IDs are defined within a specific range, unless otherwise noted as a deviation.
Database record IDs
All new database record IDs used by the z/TPF system
will fall in the following ranges:
- X'0000' to X'00FF'
- X'FC00' to X'FFFF'
Current record IDs that fall outside this range will not be changed at this time to comply with this standard. For a list of existing database record IDs that deviate from this standard, see Existing database record ID deviations.
Notes:
- If possible, use the existing database record types #IBMMS, #IBMML, #IBMMP4, and #IBMM4. Creating a new FACE record type might waste file addresses because more file addresses might be assigned for a new record type than are needed for a specific application.
- X'0000' cannot be used by the z/TPFDF product.
Tape record IDs
All new tape record IDs that are used by the z/TPF system will fall in the following ranges:
- X'EA00' to X'EFFF'
Current record IDs that fall outside this range will not be changed at this time to comply with this standard. For a list of existing tape record IDs that deviate from this standard, see Deviations for record IDs used for RTA/RTL tape.
