General Files

A general file is a sequentially organized set of data that is created by z/TPF offline programs running under the IBM® z/OS® system. The data is then processed online.

In principle, a general file is similar to a general data set. The primary difference is that the data on a general file is created using nonstandard IBM z/OS access methods, whereas, when data is created offline for a general data set, standard IBM z/OS access methods are used.
