ISPF

z/OSMF ISPF provides the functionality of z/OS® ISPF, through the amenity of a web browser.

For the experienced ISPF user, z/OSMF ISPF provides a sometimes limited and sometimes different interface for performing z/OS tasks, when a full function 3270 interface is not available. While most ISPF dialogs function in the z/OSMF ISPF environment, the way they work is not always identical to the way they work in 3270 z/OS ISPF.

Throughout this z/OSMF ISPF help, 3270 z/OS ISPF (or sometimes z/OS ISPF) refers to viewing ISPF through a 3270 terminal or equivalent. z/OSMF ISPF refers to viewing ISPF through a web browser, by using IBM® z/OS Management Facility.

3270 z/OS ISPF hosts text-based applications supporting frequent use of the Tab key (instead of using the mouse), toggling between overwrite and insert mode in input fields, and the specific use of the Return key and mouse keys.

z/OSMF ISPF displays the 3270 z/OS ISPF applications by using a web browser.

The layout of each individual z/OSMF ISPF screen is similar to the equivalent 3270 z/OS ISPF screen.

The z/OSMF ISPF interface has been enhanced to take advantage of the web browser environment. In particular, this means that you can use the mouse more often, for example, in selecting point and shoot menu options and function keys. Also, you can define long (lots of rows) logical screens, and scroll within these screens.
