Exporting and importing a dashboard

The purpose of this scenario is to show how to export and import a dashboard.

You have just created a dashboard on the test environment that perfectly suits your needs; you can easily monitor your environment and quickly obtain the information you need.

Now, you want to reproduce it on the development and production environments, but creating a new dashboard on each environment with the same configuration, requires substantial effort.

With the import/export feature, you can quickly reproduce your dashboard anywhere in your environment.

Procedure

  1. From the dashboard to be exported, click on the options menu next to the name of the dashboard and select Export. A JSON file is downloaded.
  2. Log in to the Dynamic Workload Console that runs on the development environment.
  3. Select the Boards menu and then click Import Boards.
  4. Optionally, add a prefix to be added to the board name, for example, “Dev-“. Although it is not required, it helps you identify the dashboard on the development environment.
  5. Select the JSON file of the board to be imported and Save.
  6. Reopen the Boards menu, and select the imported dashboard. The board automatically displays the retrieved data for monitoring purposes.
    You then replicate the same steps on the production environment.

With just a few clicks, you have successfully reproduced the dashboard on all your environments.
