Curating content

For analytic assets to be able to provide accurate information, they must have access to information that is correct, trusted, and reliable. Use IBM® Watson™ Curator to classify and enhance your content with metadata while you maintain traceable provenance of it.

Creating collections
A collection is a well-organized and verified set of information. Team Leads are typically responsible for creating collections, but Content Curators can create collections too.
Adding documents to the collection from your local system
When a new collection is created, IBM Watson Curator automatically creates an Update Collection Documents step for the Content Curator. If the Content Curator has documents on the local system that are relevant to the collection, the curator can add them to the collection.
Creating collection tasks for Data Experts
To determine whether information exists that can be collected electronically, a Content Curator can create collection tasks for Data Experts. Collection tasks direct IBM StoredIQ Data Experts to collect content for collections.
Adding documents to collections by using IBM StoredIQ Data Workbench
If documents exist that are managed by IBM StoredIQ Data Workbench and that are relevant to collections, you can add the documents to the collections.
Reviewing collected documents
In the Collected curation phase, the Content Curator reviews the documents and determines whether to include them in the collection's curated document set, exclude them from the collection's curated document set, or most often, put them into curation with subject matter experts.
Creating curation tasks for Domain Experts
Document curation tasks direct Domain Experts to review the specified content for particular collections and if appropriate, classify and enhance the content for use by analytic assets.
Curating documents (Domain Experts)
After collected documents are reviewed by the Content Curator, they are typically routed to Domain Experts. Domain Experts use their subject matter expertise to determine whether to exclude documents from the collection's curated document set or whether to classify them, add topics to them, and include them in the collection's curated document set. From time to time, it is also possible that curated or excluded documents are routed back to Domain Experts for recuration.

Although Domain Experts typically curate documents based on their subject matter expertise, Team Leads and Content Curators can also perform this task.

Verifying curated documents
When a Domain Expert completes the curation of a set of documents and marks the associated Review Documents step complete, IBM Watson Curator automatically creates a Verify Curated Documents step for the Content Curator. The Content Curator is responsible for verifying that the documents were properly curated.
Completing collections
When all existing documents that are relevant to the project are collected, classified, and enhanced, complete the collection.
Approving collections
When a Content Curator completes a collection, IBM Watson Curator automatically creates an Approve Collection step for the Team Lead. Use this step to verify that the collection meets the requirements of the project.
Restarting the curation process
At any time after documents are curated or excluded from the curated document set of a collection, Team Leads and Content Curators can restart the curation process on those documents. Restarting the curation process sends documents back for another subject matter expert review, reclassification, or the addition of new or changed topics. You can also send documents back to the Content Curator for another review or to fix a problem with the documents.
Verifying recurated documents
When a Domain Expert completes recuration for a set of documents and marks the associated Rereview Collection Documents step complete, IBM Watson Curator automatically creates a Verify Rereviewed Collection Documents step for the Team Lead. The Team Lead is responsible for verifying that the documents were properly recurated.
Maintaining collections
Content Curators are responsible for continually refining collections and updating information assets to facilitate the learning and precision of analytic assets like IBM Watson.

Content-based search tips
You can use text to narrow your searches and return more specific results. By defining text search criteria, you can find specific words within documents. You can search for exact matches, use search phrases, use wildcard characters, use proximity searches, and exclude terms.
