Installing Web Server Plug-ins IBM WebSphere Application Server for z/OS

The product code for Web Server plug-ins for IBM® WebSphere® Application Server for z/OS® Version 9.0 is installed by using IBM Installation Manager.

[9.0.5.11 or later]Note: The download page for WebSphere Application Server Version 9.0 includes a compressed Installation Manager portable installation that contains WebSphere Application Server, IBM HTTP Server, and the WebSphere Web Server plug-ins for each fix pack level. Follow the instructions on the download page to download and decompress this portable installation. As soon as the portable installation is decompressed and mounted, read-only, at its production location, you can use it to configure or start servers.

Before you begin

Decide whether to use a standard installation (Installation Manager metadata for all products kept in one location) or a portable installation (Installation Manager metadata for each product kept with the product).

You need the following items:

If you choose the standard installation method, you need to create an Installation Manager. See Installing Installation Manager on z/OS.

If you chose to install the product from the web-based product and service repository, create repository credentials by editing and running Installation Manager GIN2CRED sample job or WebSphere Application Server BBO1CRED sample job.

About this task

The Installation Manager imcl install command is used to install all WebSphere Application Server for z/OS offerings.

This procedure uses several WebSphere Application Server for z/OS sample jobs. You can find these jobs in the BBO.SBBOJCL data set that is installed as part of FMID HBBO900. You can also download the sample jobs by following the instructions on the Sample jobs for WebSphere Application Server Version 9 on z/OS page.

Procedure

  • Create a standard installation of Web Server plug-ins for WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Version 9.0.
    1. Choose an installation location for this copy of the product.
      The sample jobs assume that this location is used:
      /global/instmgr/products/WebSphere/Plugins/level
      where level is an identifier, such as 9.0.5.14.
    2. Edit and run the WebSphere Application Server BBO3CFS sample job to allocate and mount the product file system.
    3. Edit and submit one of the following WebSphere Application Server sample jobs to install the product.
      Each job contains complete instructions for the sample path chosen.
      • BBO3INS Standard installation from the web-based product and service repository
      • BBO3INSL Standard installation from downloaded repositories (IBM ShopzSeries, Fix Central)
    4. Unmount the product file system and remount it, read-only, at your production location.
  • Create a portable installation of Web Server plug-ins for WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Version 9.0.
    1. Choose an installation directory for this copy of the product.
      The sample jobs assume that this location is used:
      /global/instmgr/name
      where name is the name you assign to the portable installation. A portable installation can contain several products.
    2. Edit and run the WebSphere Application Server BBO3CFSP sample job to allocate and mount a file system for the portable installation.
    3. Edit and submit one of the following WebSphere Application Server sample jobs to install the product.
      Each job contains complete instructions for the sample path chosen.
      • BBO3INSP Portable installation from the Web-based product and service repository
      • BBO3INSQ Portable installation from downloaded repositories (IBM ShopzSeries, Fix Central)
    4. Install any other products into the portable installation. Choose a separate subdirectory for each.
    5. Unmount the product file system and remount it, read-only, at your production location.
