- V7.1.6
|
- Tivoli Storage
Manager products are delivered only electronically
- The Tivoli Storage
Manager family of products are now delivered as
electronic releases. Physical media is no longer available as part of the standard product offering
in Passport Advantage. The announcement letter also provides this information. Announcement letters
are available at http://www.ibm.com/common/ssi.
IBM is developing products by using a continuous
delivery model, which supports more frequent product updates. If you require physical media for
legal or other reasons, contact your sales representative.
- Troubleshooting information is enhanced.
- When a daemon is working correctly, the daemon process ID (PID) file time stamp is updated
regularly. A PID file that is not recently updated indicates that the daemon must be started again.
For more information about checking the time stamp of PID files, see
Checking the time stamp of a daemon process-ID file.
HSM events are logged to the
syslog file. For an explanation of the HSM events in
the syslog file, see HSM entries in the syslog file.
You can create a dump file at any time, and without stopping the
dsmwatchd daemon. To create a dump file, see Creating a dump file.
Information is provided that can help
you resolve problems with file migration operations and file recall operations. For more information, see HSM common problems and solutions.

- V7.1.4
|
- HSM runs on IBM Spectrum Scale for Linux on z Systems.
- IBM Spectrum Scale™ is based on IBM General Parallel File System (GPFS™ )
technology.
- For information about which levels of GPFS and which Linux distributions are required for HSM on
z Systems, see technote 1966164
- You can migrate files that take up no data blocks on the file system.
- The hsmmigzeroblockfiles option specifies whether files that take up no
data blocks on the file system can be migrated. By default, the files are migrated if they meet
migration criteria. Before V7.1.4, such small files were not migrated.
- For information about the hsmmigzeroblockfiles option, see hsmmigzeroblockfiles.
|
- V7.1.3
|
- Language pack consolidation
- You are not required to install separate language packs for non-English languages All supported
languages are installed automatically.
For information about product
installation, see Installing the space management client.
|
- V7.1.2
|
- The space management client is updated with APAR and defect fixes.
|
- 7.1.1
|
- On GPFS files systems, GPFS is used for HSM failover tasks
- In previous releases, the watch daemon monitored failover events. Especially in large clusters,
the watch daemon used many system resources when handling failover events. GPFS requires less system resources than the HSM watch daemon.
For failover
situations, a node can be configured to take control from a failed HSM node, fail over to another
node, both, or neither. For more information, see the new mode option for the
dsmmigfs enablefailover command in the dsmmigfs enablefailover, and disablefailover topic. The HSM failover behavior
does not change for nodes that were configured without using the mode option.
The sdrreset parameter on the dsmmigfs command is no
longer valid.
The watch daemon no longer handles failover events.
- Recall processing is enhanced
- Version 7.1.1 introduces the preview section of the stub file, which is used for streaming
recalls. If an application reads only the preview section of the stub file, the file is not
recalled. The preview size of the stub file is set by using the previewsize
option in the dsmattr, dsmmigfs add, dsmmigfs
update, and dsmmigrate commands.
For more information about using
the previewsize option with these commands, see dsmattr, dsmmigfs add and update, and dsmmigrate.
- The readstartsrecall option is now valid with the
dsmattr command.
- For information about using the readstartsrecall option with the
dsmattr command, see dsmattr.
- The dsmattr command output contains more information.
- The dsmattr command output is enhanced with the following information:
- Recall mode
- Stub size
- Preview size
- Whether the readstartsrecall option is set
- File name
For more information about the dsmattr command, see dsmattr.
- The minimum abbreviation of the stubsize option is increased to 5
characters
- The minimum abbreviation of the stubsize option is increased to
stubs.
For more information about the stubsize option,
see dsmmigfs add and update.
- The minimum abbreviation of the stubpremigrated option is increased to 5
characters
- The minimum abbreviation of the stubpremigrated option is increased to
stubp.
For more information about the stubpremigrated
option, see dsmmigrate.

- 7.1.0
|
- Control of streaming recall is improved
- In previous versions, the buffering of streaming recalls was set by using the
streamseq option in the dsm.sys option file. In version
7.1 and later versions, you set streaming recall attributes by using the dsmmigfs
add and dsmmigfs update commands. The dsmmigfs add
and dsmmigfs update commands have new parameters that set the following
attributes:
- The streaming recall timeout value.
- Whether a file is recalled as soon as the stub is read.
For more information about the dsmmigfs add and dsmmigfs
update commands, see dsmmigfs add and update.
- You can query the status of GPFS nodes by using the
dsmmigfs query -node command
- The new node option, which is available with the dsmmigfs
query command, displays information about GPFS
nodes. You can display the output in an easily parsable format by using the
parsable option.
For more information about the node
option and the parsable option, see dsmmigfs query.
- You can specify that recalled files are in resident state
- In previous versions, recalling a file did not delete the migrated copy in Tivoli Storage
Manager storage. The recalled file was in premigrated
state. In version 7.1, the resident option specifies that
recalled files are in resident state. The migrated copy in storage is expired at the next
reconciliation.
For more information about the resident
option, see dsmrecall.
- You can manually configure a connection to a secondary Tivoli Storage
Manager server
- When the primary Tivoli Storage
Manager server for HSM fails,
you can connect to a secondary server. The primary Tivoli Storage
Manager server for the space management client must be configured to replicate client node data. You
can only recall files from the secondary server; you cannot migrate files to the secondary server.
For more information about configuring the connection to a secondary
Tivoli Storage
Manager server, see Configuring the space management client to connect to a secondary Tivoli Storage Manager server.
- The minimum abbreviation of the stubsize option is increased from 2
characters to 3 characters
- You use the stubsize option to specify the size of stub files that remain
on your local file systems when files are migrated to storage. The minimum abbreviation of the
stubsize option is increased from st to
stu. The three-character abbreviation distinguishes the
stubsize option from the streamseq option.
For more
information about the stubsize option, see dsmmigfs add and update.
- Troubleshooting information is added to the Tivoli Storage
Manager for Space Management User's Guide
- Information is provided that can help you resolve some typical problems. Instructions for
gathering troubleshooting information can help you and IBM representatives resolve problems.
- For more information, see Troubleshooting the space management client.
